Benedict Cumberbatch For Bond Role?
Sherlock actor is reportedly in talks to play Ian Fleming in a new biopic
Benedict Cumberbatch could be about to land a Bond role if the latest Hollywood rumours are to be believed. But the Sherlock star won’t be taking over from Daniel Craig, instead he’s thought to be in talks to play 007’s creator Ian Fleming.
It’s been reported that Benedict has been offered the role of the James Bond writer in a new big screen biopic which will follow the origins of 007.
Insider site The Tracking Board state that the Brit is the frontrunner for the role in the as yet untitled film that is based on a 2009 biography by Andrew Lycett.
The movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting later this year, will follow Fleming through the Second World War and his experiences in naval intelligence where he found his inspiration for Bond, portraying similar events as recently shown in Sky Atlantic drama Fleming, which starred Dominic Cooper.
Written by Matthew Brown, the biopic is still without a director after Duncan Jones, the man behind Moon and Source Code dropped out last year to direct the Warcraft film.
It’s not the first time Benedict has been linked to a Bond role. Back in 2012 it was rumoured the actor was in talks to play a villain in the upcoming 24th movie.
More recent rumours though have placed Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role as a Bond baddie opposite Daniel Craig.
